Exploits Valley Air Services (EVAS) is using NBAA-BACE this week to introduce Medimax, its medical conversion for Beechcraft 1900Ds, to U.S. operators. Based at Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, the modification shop is displaying a Medimax-configured 1900D at the show static display at Henderson Executive Airport (KHND).
Joining EVAS at the exhibit are the two firms EVAS recently appointed as its U.S. sales representatives: Las Vegas-based Jetstreme Aviation and TM Aviation, an aircraft sales and advisory firm with operations in Canada and Florida. Ahead of the show, the three companies organized the “Medimax Road to NBAA,” a U.S. demonstration tour for aeromedical operators, health care organizations, and government agencies.
Medimax centers on a powered patient-loading system that keeps patients horizontal during loading and unloading and reduces manual lifting. Patients enter through a rear loading door, while medical crews use a forward entrance.
Layouts for one or two patients can include LifePort stretcher positions, seating for medical crews and family members, a forward lavatory, and a washable hard-surface interior that simplifies cleaning between missions. EVAS pitches the aircraft for bariatric, neonatal, routine, and long-distance patient transport. It also offers a Cargo Maximizer configuration for freight and logistics work.
According to EVAS, a Medimax 1900D has a range of about 1,100 nm with IFR reserves in zero-wind conditions and cruises at about 265 knots. Actual performance varies with configuration and payload.
Customers can bring their own 1900D to EVAS or have the company find one, and a typical conversion takes three to six months, a Jetstreme spokesman told AIN. Both the FAA and Transport Canada have approved the Medimax STC, so converted aircraft can enter service immediately. EVAS does structural, avionics, maintenance, refurbishment, and conversion work in-house and handles engineering, pricing, and contracts.
Separately, EVAS is developing a B1900D-NG concept that would also offer Medimax customers Garmin G950 NXi avionics, five-blade MT-Propeller composite propellers, and new or overhauled Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67D engines, Jetstreme said.
Jetstreme estimates that more than 200 Beechcraft 1900Ds worldwide could be candidates for conversion. Its long-term goal is to capture about 20% of that market across the Medimax and Cargo Maximizer programs. The companies plan to announce more demonstration stops after the show.
