A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Jet Aviation’s <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2025-11-11/jet-aviation-and-running-miami">newest</a> FBO has joined the International Standard for Business Aviation Handling (IS-BAH) ranks. The company’s facility at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (KOPF), which opened in November, has achieved Stage 2 registration in the voluntary safety management system (SMS) program.&nbsp;
While facilities usually must wait a period after achieving Stage 1 to demonstrate full SMS integration and pursue the next level of the program, Jet Aviation has a proven safety ethic, with <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2022-02-16/all-jet-aviation-us-fbos-now-bah-stage-2">all</a> of its other locations having maintained Stage 2 registration since 2022.&nbsp;
According to the International Business Aviation Council, which has administered the IS-BAH program since its <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/2014-05-22/ibac-unveils-best-practices-fbos-ground-handlers">launch</a> in 2014, for locations under a wider network with a strong proven SMS, the assessment can be carried out at Stage 1 and Stage 2 concurrently, with the auditor making a recommendation for Stage 1 or Stage 2 based on the available evidence.

This achievement reflects the strong safety culture we embed from day one, as well as the team’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence to ensure a seamless experience for our customers in Miami and beyond.”
The recently built 27-acre facility at KOPF features an 8,500-sq-ft FBO terminal, 40,000 sq ft of hangars with 30-foot-high doors; a 12.4-acre ramp; two taxiway connections into the airport system; fueling with jet-A, 100LL, and sustainable aviation fuel; and drive-on ramp access via a private entrance.
